What's the deal with Airbrushing?

Airbrushing is the newest and fastest growing makeup technique sweeping the nation in the bridal and fashion industry today. Due to the latest technological advancements in camera and video equipment, makeup has had to evolve into a look that is perfected for High Definition Television, as well as digital photography. The solution? Welcome, the airbrush!

What is an airbrush?

Airbrush makeup is applied by using a small pen like wand that transfers makeup to the skin by spraying the product onto the face. The brush wand is attached to a hose that allows air to flow from the compressor, applying thousands of little dots of makeup onto the skin without ever touching the face. Most brides find the process relaxing, as the feeling is much similar to a light puff of air gently blowing against your cheek. The result is a super lightweight, highly blended and virtually flawless application that lasts for up to 18 hours--perfect for the bride that will be going well into the night! And best of all, airbrush makeup is sweat proof, smudge proof, and water-resistant...so brides can feel free to dance the night away!

How does it look on the skin?

The look can be varied according to your personal preference and skin condition. For those who do not necessarily need to cover, but simply want a natural looking skin foundation, the air pressure can be controlled to allow a more sheer application of makeup. For others who may need a little more coverage, the natural look can still be achieved with a slight adjustment in the air pressure. This allows a bit more makeup to flow onto your face, providing you with more coverage where you need it, while still looking and feeling lightweight.

What if I want to cover a scar or tattoo?

No problem. The airbrush technique allows for perfect paramedical coverage. This process is great at concealing port wine stains, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, heavy scarring, and even tattoos.

Is it safe for my skin?

All airbrush products used by Jen are water based, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores. It is safe for even the most sensitive of skins, and can easily be removed with soap and water.

What if I just don't want to be airbrushed?

All makeup products Jen uses are professional grade quality products. When not airbrushing, Jen prefers to stick to mineral makeup. Minerals are the best kind of makeup to use for the face, because they do not contain any binders or fillers that standard powders and liquid foundations contain. A true mineral makeup line should be free of any talcs, dyes, perfumes, mineral oils, or harsh preservatives. It stays true to your skin color because it does not oxidize on the skin and turn orange, or absorb into the skin throughout the day and disappear. It is also water-resistant and provides great antioxidant protection. The preferred mineral line Jen uses is Franche Mineral Cosmetics. Other lines used range from MAC, Prescriptives, NARS, Makeup Forever, Trucco, and Cinema Secrets.

Do you offer trial consultations?

Absolutely! Plan for about an hour and a half to allot for your trial consultation. During this time, we will discuss the look and feel of your wedding and answer important questions regarding the way you would like your makeup to look for your big day. We will review colors that will best compliment your skin tone and incorporate them into your bridal color scheme. A trial run is a great way to get comfortable with the makeup application procedure, as well as map out the exact shades we will use on your wedding day, to allow for a smoother flow in your time schedule. Feel free to bring out magazine photos or images of a particular makeup style that you like, so that we are sure to achieve your ideal look.

Is there a minimum amount required to book my wedding day?

Yes. For all Saturday weddings, a two service minimum is required in order to reserve the requested wedding date. This can include one bridal application, and one additional makeup application, airbrush or mineral. This does not apply for weddings taking place on Fridays or Sundays, and is only enforced for weddings taking place on a Saturday. HOWEVER, if you are booking Jen less than two weeks away from your wedding date and her Saturday is not yet filled, Jen can accommodate a single bridal application.   **There is a minimum requirement of at least 3 people that must be requesting hair services in order to reserve your wedding day bridal hair specialist.

How early should I book my wedding day makeup?

Jen accepts bridal bookings up to 12 months out, on a first come, first serve basis. It is best to reserve your wedding day makeup right away, especially during high traffic wedding months, (March-June and Sept.-Nov.). However, if your date is just around the corner and you have not yet reserved your date, Jen may still be able to accommodate you on short notice if she is not yet booked with another party on that same date.

Do you offer bridal hair styling?

Yes! Upon request, Jen will provide a separate hairstylist to accommodate you on your wedding day. All bridal hair services are listed under "Bridal Rates" and are subject to hairstylist availability. By having a separate makeup artist and hairstylist, this allows multiple girls to be worked on at the same time, thus improving the flow of your day to run much more smoothly during your wedding day beauty preparations.   All recommended bridal hair stylists come with years of experience in some of Houston's finest salons, and are greatly skilled in the art of bridal updo's. *Hairstylist must be paid by separate check at time of service, and can only be reserved with a 3 party minimum.

What all is included in my wedding makeup purchase?

Every bridal application also includes a complimentary application of individual false eyelashes for the bridal portraits and wedding day makeup. The bride will also receive complimentary neck, chest, or back coverage if there are any skin imperfections that must be addressed where the gown does not cover. Jen will also make sure all last minute lip touch ups are applied to you and your bridal party before leaving the event.

What do I need to do to reserve my wedding date?

If you would like to book Jen as your wedding day makeup artist, Jen may be contacted through email or by phone. If your date is available, Jen will then send out a contract to you which is to be signed and returned by mail, along with a 50% non-refundable deposit. Your date will not officially be reserved until the contract and deposit have been received, by which you will receive an email confirmation letting you know your wedding date is officially booked.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Jen accepts all payments by cash (preferred), personal check, or Pay Pal. All payments must be made in full at the time services are rendered. This includes bridal portraits and trial runs. The remainder of the amount still owed for your wedding day services may also be paid ahead of time, if you prefer to cross it off your list early. Please make all checks payable to Jen Marine.

start getting regular facials at least two months prior to your wedding date to get your skin in tip top shape.

remember to have your brows properly groomed no more than three days before the wedding.

make sure all your girls know and understand the scheduled wedding day timeline so that everyone is aware of where they need to be and at what time.

arrive to your makeup chair with a clean face, and tell your girls to do the same.

bring good music to the hotel room or prep location.

try not to have too many people in the room at one time unless they are in your immediate party. this will help keep the stress level in the room to a minimum.

make sure to designate a well lit area w/ table space and natural lighting for your application area when possible.

don't go overboard in the tanning bed or mystic tan booth. tell this to your bridesmaids as well. a row of beautiful women in a photo, interrupted by one orange bridesmaid in the middle, will really stand out in your photo!

make sure you eat sometime during the day while getting ready. a little food in your stomach will keep your bloodsugar level in check.
